In 1993, Ghana began a new chapter: the Fourth Republic. Three decades later, the nation had achieved something remarkable on the African continent — thirty years of uninterrupted parliamentary democracy.
To consolidate the gains of that journey and deepen citizens' participation in the work of the Legislature, the Parliament of Ghana instituted the Democracy Cup Football Match — an annual contest between the best football clubs in Ghana, integrated into the national sporting calendar as a tradition symbolising the unity and vibrancy of Ghana's democratic journey.
The maiden edition in 2024 brought together the country's two most decorated clubs — Accra Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko — and the Cup has grown with every edition since.
